This semesters work will consist of a folio around extreme sports. I have choosen this path because of my background and passion for skating. Skating is where my photography started and to be a professional photographer in the extreme sports industry would be my dream career and also a reachable one.
My main goal for this semester and for the rest of the year is to build and very solid portfolio around extreme sports and to also build my photographic gear to be able to shoot all extreme sports to the best of my potential. I already have a business running but it mostly involves corporate work and alot of catalogue work, it is good to pay the bills but im not enjoying it very much.

1.3 Final Work
Tristan Richards - Makio Stall - Woden Skatepark
I am very happy with this shot, when i planned this shot this is exactly the way i pictured it in my head. I had such a clear picture in my head that i had tristan do the trick about 20 times till i got the right shot. Using a longer lens helped alot to get the steepness of the ness and also the light just catching the edge helped alot aswell.
Sam de Smeth - Downhill Trail - Tuggeranong Pines
I am fairly happy with this shot, i am happy with the texture and the composition but now that i have my fisheye lens it would be interesting how this shot would look with that lens. It may take away the composition of where your eye takes you. The only problem is that the photo doesn't do the trail justice, the trail is actually really steep and very rough and rocky. I don't believe the photo has captured the true craziness of this trail.
Jorden Collins - AO Topporn - Woden Skatepark
I particularly love the lighting in this shot, with only 2 speedlites i believe i got the perfect amount of light on the ramp and enough to make jorden the main focal point of the photo. My main problem with this shot is that the skater is not a sponsored skater or has any star status at all. All my other shots are of at least sponsored skaters which makes the photographs more saleable and gives the shot more credit just because of the context.
Aiden Chard - Turndown - Tuggeranong Skatepark
This shot was done in a very unusual way to how i usually shoot. I did not know aiden before this shoot. He was just down at the skatepark one day doing these huge turndowns and i just asked him if i could do a shot of that, almost like getting permission on a documentary shoot.
My main problem with this is that my tripods didnt go high enough to capture how high he was going. It is always better to light your subject from above and this was almost impossible to even get the light hitting him enough.
Brock Dunn - 5-0 -Woden Skatepark
This shot was another random guy at the skatepark that i ask to shoot. This was the first shoot i did with my fisheye. I love that you can see the texture of the ramp and still get a good perspective of the trick. My main problem is that my lighting seems to be getting very simliar in every shot but this is how almost every skate photographer shoots their subject. I may have to start a new trend in skate photography.
Luke Wainman - Studio Portrait
Luke is a BMX rider sponsored by Fit Bikes and Bake bone BMX. Luke is a really really funny guy, he is a bit of a class clown which i have tried to capture here. The whole shoot we were laughing so hard and it was really hard to do any serious shots.
The bars he is holding is the handle bars that gave him the broken collar bone and dislocated shoulder. I really wanted to tell a bit of a story with this portrait and i believe i have done it. I also added in the pin stripes in the background to tell more of the story of his personalty as it give you a sort of circus feel as he is an amazing rider and a bit of a clown.
The only thing i would change would maybe be the expression but this is just who luke is and you cant change that.
Sam De Smeth - Studio Portrait
I went into this shoot knowing i want to put this texture on the background, i really tried to match the amount of mud on him to fit well and i believe it works. The texture of the mud with the colours on his shirt and helmet came out really well, even better shooting with the blad and being able to see all the detail perfect.
It was really hard to light with the helmet giving lots of shadows, i ended up using 3 softboxes and a reflector to get in-between the gaps in the helmet to minimise shadows.

This shot was really hard to get the right lighting it was pitch black and i had lots of people waiting for me, so i was a bit rushed. I re-edited this one and put more ground in to give a bit more room in the composition.
If i was to re-shoot this i would use my fisheye lens and i would rethink think the lighting a bit more as again it is almost the same lighting set up in every shot.
