Robert Seale is a editorial portrait photographer based mostly around sports. I am not posting this as an inspiration because i don't seem to like his work very much. Not to say his work is bad but they seem to just be a bit boring, the technical skill is there and the personality is captured but most his work is very similar and he seems to repeat his lighting in many shots. He has some good ideas around his work but I believe his photos only stand out because of the characters and celebrities that he shoots. It is the models that make his photos what they are and not so much the photographer.
This is just my opinion, there just seems to be something missing with his technique and concepts around his photographs.

Yes, many times it is the subject that makes the image amazing - and in sports photography I guess a lot of it is about the star subject. It is great that you can be critical of an obviously professional photographer and distill the elements that you do think are working - I bet a couple of years ago you would of thought all his work was awesome! Keep posting about the different photographers you look at - this is all part of that context chapter for your report.
