My goals for this semester is basically to improve my skills in extreme sports photography and build a very solid portfolio based around many different extreme sports. This is the direction I have chosen to take my photography style, i have tried many different styles of photography from products to fashion. I have enjoyed tried all these different areas but i never felt like it was something I would love to do for a career.
So now i have decided to go back to where photography began for me, Extreme Sports....
I first found myself holding a camera taking photos of me and my mates skating, back then with no dreams of being a photographer but only a pro skater as that is every skaters dream.
I started shooting this semesters folio about 1 week ago and am having the most fun with my photography since i started the course. This is the style of photography i can see myself shooting for a career, i still love shooting different things such a products people and food but these also can accommodate the extreme sports photos.
I started the course to shoot other things than skating and to learn new techniques, i found myself very obliged to not shoot skating and find what i would like to shoot for a living but after 2 years i have found I really only wanted to shoot extreme sports.
At the end of 3rd year I am going to take a well deserved gap year and travel. I want to shoot as much international extreme sports overseas and come back with the best possible portfolio i can have. On my journey i want to sell my shots to magazines and make money by freelancing. My main goal within this type of photography would be to have a contract with a company such as Saloman and travel the world shooting assigned jobs.
Great goals, Rhys - nothing like being passionate about your subject. I'm sure you will go a long way with this.
